All across New South Wales and Queensland, tens of thousands have been affected by major flooding damaging homes, businesses and livelihoods. As a company that explores an alternative way of growing to traditional farming & gardening, we are well aware of the devastation that extreme weather events can have on so many industries and lives, and particularly think of our agricultural industries and the countless people who have been evacuated.
Here at Urban Plant Growers, we braced for the heavy rainfall with sandbags outside our warehouse & office and have fortunately minimised any water damage so far. We are hoping for everyone’s sake that the rain will ease soon.
With the daunting prospect of a mammoth clean up effort and the task of rebuilding lives still ahead, we have been encouraged once again by the Australian community getting behind their fellow Aussies in need. If you are in a flood affected area, please stay safe and follow the safety orders from the SES & the government. If you are able, here’s some ways you can help:
At Urban Plant Growers we've strived since the beginning to hire and work with talented women. Founded by two men who see themselves as allies, we've worked to purposely create a workplace filled with people from diverse backgrounds, who's lived experiences can add to the beautiful web that is Urban Plant Growers.
Our company hires more women than men, and importantly - those women are in empowering roles that enable them to work independently and make important decisions for the business. Take for example our incredible Warehouse Manager Tamara, pictured above.
This year's IWD theme of 'Changing Climates' celebrates those women and girls who are contributing to creating a sustainable future for us all. It highlights the need to change the climate of gender equality in all sectors. Check out some awesome stories about how women are forging change for the good of our future here.
If you haven't heard, we have a fabulous new website made just for our wonderful New Zealand growers... you can now browse everything that is available to you, shop in NZD and find all your plant needs in the one place.
Check out your NZ online store here!
Our Urban Plant Growers team were raring to go on Sunday morning to do our part for Clean Up Australia Day, however the heavy rainfall meant that we have postponed our Marrickville clean up to later this month.
A great reminder that *everyday* is a great day to clean up. If you see rubbish where it shouldn't be, pick it up and put it where it belongs... the bin!
Stay safe!
