Spring is here in Australia and with the new season, it’s time to help your plants get ready for the warmer months so they can live their best Hot Plant Summer.

With hydroponics, you’re less likely to be constrained by the weather. You can control the amount of light your plants get, how much water and nutrient levels they have access to, and they are less susceptible to weather damage of frost and the heavy winds you find outdoors. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t things you can do during spring to help your plants live their best life.

    Watering Schedules 🔫

Changing up your watering schedule is essential coming into spring. With the warmer months, your plants are going to need some more TLC at first so they can become the best versions of themselves.

You’ll notice as it gets hotter, you’ll need to up your watering routine. For soil-based plants, check to see how quickly your plant is drying out and water accordingly. You can do this with a moisture meter or your good ol’ finger.

For hydroponics, following your regular watering routine and making small adjustments accordingly should do the trick.

    Nutrients 🧑🏼‍🔬

Your plants at this time of year are just waiting for that little boost that will help them explode into spring! Using our indoor plant food more regularly will help your plants bloom in hydroponics or soil. Key signs that your plants are lacking in nutrients is yellowing and wilting leaves. You can check on our website for how much nutrients plants need here.

Watch Out For Those Sunny Spots ☀️

If you have moved any plants into a sunnier area to help them access more light during the winter months (our grow lights are perfect for avoiding this problem) then you want to make sure you move them back before that spring sun gets too hot. This can damage your plants and hurt their leaves.

    Wipe Em Down 🧽

Wiping your plant’s leaves with a damp cloth is amazing for the health and look of your plants! Dust can collect your plants, and this can reduce how much sun gets to their leaves, preventing photosynthesis and growth. Wiping them gently will give your plants the extra love they need and keeps them clean for spring. Another thing your plant’s will thank you for is a shower. Either place them in the shower and give them a quick rinse or put them outside next time it rains.

    Plant Seasonally 🗓

Planting vegetables seasonally is a great way to schedule out what vegetables and herbs you’re planting and can be a great opportunity to try planting something new! With hydroponics, the seasons aren’t as big of a consideration but it’s a fun way to get in the mood for spring.

The top veggies or herbs to grow in spring are:

    • Lettuce
    • Beans
    • Cucumber
    • Zucchini
    • Chillies
    • Mint, sage, thyme, basil, dill, coriander... basically any herbs you like!
