Starting seeds hydroponically can be one of the easiest and most rewarding aspects of growing plants. Being able to grow seeds indoors and without soil is simple, but requires an understanding of what the seed requirements are - and these requirements change from seed to seed.

Fundamentally you just need a growth medium, water, light, adequate temperature, and patience.

When you first begin your journey as a hydroponic farmer you may be shocked at how complex it can seem. There are so many terms; micro and macronutrients, humidity, temperature levels, light intensity, PPM, EC, pH, NPK and so on. Though these values are crucial to the industrial grower – for home growers it’s actually super straight forward!

Why do plants grow in soil? The answer is that soil provides physical support for plants, contains nutrients, maintains consistent conditions (temperature, moisture levels, etc.), and provides oxygen to roots. 

The increase in population that humanity is going to experience will bring forth a whole host of issues – How we are going to feed everyone? How are we going to ensure everyone has safe housing? How do we make sure everyone has decent health care?

Thankfully, there are already a few technologies that scientists are working on to help with the coming population increase.
